Hiking 9 Miles in Staunton State Park with Friends | Colorado | Part 2
Welcome back to the second half of our hike through Staunton State Park near Conifer, Colorado. In this section my friends and I hike to the top of the final scenic overlook, through an enchanting aspen grove, and to Staunton’s Old Mill which was built in the 1800s. We also get barked at by a not too friendly squirrel. Thanks for joining us on this hike!
Staunton State Park is Colorado’s newest state park and is located near Conifer, Colorado, about 45 minutes from Denver. If you’re looking for where to hike near Denver this is perfect day hiking in Colorado. There are multiple trail options allowing you to create whatever distance you’re comfortable with (we did a 9 mile day hike) with multiple scenic overlooks. Most of the trails are multi use so there were some occasional mountain bikers riding by, but we had large sections of the trail to ourselves.

On my cross country road trip moving from LA to St. Louis I was blessed to be able to stop and stay with my good friends Derek and Liana who live in Evergreen, Colorado which is about 40 minutes outside Denver. They took me to Staunton State Park near Conifer, Colorado for a beautiful 10 mile day hike through Colorado’s newest state park.
All of us rated the trail as moderate. I don’t think kids would have any problems with these hikes, and the trails are dog friendly as well! Add to that ample parking and clean bathrooms and this is one of the best Colorado state parks I’ve visited. And there are campgrounds!
