Where to get royalty free music
For your videos to be able to monetize on YouTube you have to use royalty free music. For example, if you use a Taylor Swift song in one of your videos it will NOT be monetized. In fact, Taylor Swift will actually be making money off your video because you are using her copyrighted material. She thanks you. The good news is that that there are several different websites out there that offer royalty free music that can be use for YouTube videos. The most popular is probably Epidemic Sound, but I use Audio Hero and I’ll tell you why… it’s FREE!

My top 5 royalty free songs I use for my YouTube Hiking videos
All of those options on Audio Hero are great, but going through them all and finding the perfect song for your hiking videos can take FOREVER and drive you insane. Trust me, I’ve been there. So here are my 5 favorite songs on Audio Hero for hiking videos to help save you some time.
“Sunny Herb Garden” - This is the first song I downloaded from Audio Hero, and probably the song I use most frequently in my videos. To me it’s the perfect song for heading off on the trail. It’s bright and gives a sense of hope and adventure. Check it out in the start of my hiking in Staunton State Park Part 1 in Colorado. WATCH
“Plain Folks” - This is another one of my favorite songs to start off videos. It’s a slightly different vibe, but still holds that same sense of adventure. I used “Plain Folks” on my hike with Abby in Sandstone Canyon. WATCH
“Catch the Wind” - If we think about our hiking videos as one journey, or one story, “Catch the Wind” is my go to for the midpoint of my hike. That strong minor guitar chord gives a sense of struggle and perseverance. You’re a couple miles in at this point, but the destination is still ahead and you power through. An example of this is when Abby and I hiked Grotpeter Trail. WATCH
“My Private Island” - I love using this song as I approach the most scenic point of the trail. It’s perfect for the final ascent to the summit. That solo piano gives a sense of wonder, inviting you to experience something amazing. Perfect for reaching the Pikes Peak Overlook in Staunton State Park. WATCH
“Gingham Dresses” - If you’re looking for something more chill and fantasy-esq, “Gingham Dresses” is your jam. I think this is a good song for the end of your journey, or a winter hike like I used it for in my hike of the Tree Sisters in Colorado. It’s got a fairy tale feel to it that’s just enchanting. WATCH
