Playing Around on Hogsback Trail in Klondike Park | Missouri

Today I head an hour west of St. Louis to Klondike Park in St. Charles County Missouri to hike Hogsback Trail which is a 1.5 mile loop trail I was hoping would have good cliff views… it did not. So instead I played around and did some trail running with my GoPro Max 360 camera. What do you all think about the image difference between my iPhone 11 and the GoPro Max 360?

AllTrails has the loop clocked in at 1.5 miles, but walking back and forth to the camera adds some distance as well as going to the overlook.

Does Hogsback Trail have bluff views?

The short answer to this is, not really. When I was searching for hikes within an hour of St. Louis with good bluff views Hogsback looked super promising based on the AllTrails contour map. I was hoping for something similar to Castlewood State Park with its unobstructed views of the Meramec River, but sadly Hogsback did not deliver.

While the trail does go along the ridge most of the view is obstructed by foliage, and it’s not really a dramatic cliff drop off as the map would lead you to believe. The best views are at the Overlook (bottom black dot), which I imagine is full of people visiting on the weekends. It’s cool up there, but right across the Missouri River is a giant power plant.

Trail Running with my GoPro Max 360

I’m not classically trained as a film maker. I don’t really color correct. And I edit everything on iMovie. I’m curious to know what you all think about the difference in footage between my iPhone 11 and the GoPro Max 360? Off the bat I can tell the GoPro Max has a more saturated image, but I don’t really have a problem with that. What do you all think? Leave me a comment below.

Hogsback Trail Review

Is Hogsback Trail worth the hour drive from St. Louis? Probably not, but if you’re already out in St. Charles County, maybe at a winery? It’s definitely worth a quick stop for a nice easy hike with fun views from the overlook. Here’s a list of wineries close by:
